“Girl you Glow” a comment we all want to hear….unless it has to do with getting to much sun. No one wants to be glowing red because they didn’t apply sunscreen. However a lot of people don’t. Like a LOT.
In this post well explore some reasons why people say they don’t wear any and what you can do if you’ve had one of these concern(s) because….we all need to be wearing sunscreen.
I NEVER BURNExcuse: If you have a darker complexion, you may be less likely to get a sunburn. The Fix: While sunburns are bad for your skin, UV rays can still damage your skin, even if you don’t get burned. Aside from skin cancer, UV exposure can also cause wrinkles and sun spots, and wearing sunscreen is your best defense.
IT’S CLOUDYExcuse: The sun isn’t shining so you don’t need sunscreen, right? The Fix: Wrong! UV rays can still penetrate through clouds, meaning overcast skies won’t protect you from sun damage. It’s best to lube up even when the sun isn’t shining.
I’M NOT SPENDING HOURS OUTSIDE Excuse: You’re taking your dog for a quick 15-minute walk, not laying out on the beach for hours. A few minutes of sunshine won’t hurt. The Fix: Any amount of skin exposure isn’t good for your skin, so while you may not be tanning all morning in your bikini, the short times you do spend in the sun will add up. Get in the habit of lubing up before leaving the house, even on non-beach days. Good skincare includes good sun-care so be sure to be using sunscreen everyday.
TO AVOID BREAKOUTS Excuse: Smothering thick sunscreen all over your body can aggravate some people’s skin and lead to pimples, not only on the face, but also on other parts of the body. The Fix: Look for bottles that are oil-free and noncomedogenic, and use a sunscreen specifically formulated for the face. As soon as you’re done playing under the sun, take a shower to wash it off. This should help prevent acne.
TO GET A TAN Excuse: You prefer the way your skin looks with a tan when bearing your skin in all those summery tube tops and short skirts, and are also into these so-called benefits of tanning. The Fix: There are plenty of less-risky options out there that offer your skin the same radiant glow without the UV damage. Powder, Brownzers, and of course sunless tanners.
SKIN CANCER DOESN’T RUN IN MY FAMILY Excuse: No one in your family has ever suffered from skin cancer, and they spend tons of time in the sun without protection. The Fix: While your siblings, parents, aunts and uncles, and grandparents may not have skin cancer, unfortunately that doesn’t mean they never will, and the same goes for you. In order to keep up the healthy skin streak, apply sunscreen every time you’re outside.”
